Local Unit & Position Description

We are seeking a Civil Engineer to join the Renewables Department in the UK and Ireland. You should have knowledge and experience in the development and execution of large-scale projects, particularly those associated with solar PV, energy storage and wind.

The individual in this role will deliver projects and packages across a range of consultancy services. You would work on key projects that are enabling the energy transition and will include managing smaller packages of consultancy work (e.

g. specific technical studies) to taking on a package manager role within one of our owner’s engineering projects. The successful candidate will have strong project management skills and knowledge of the onshore civil works for renewable energy projects, and preferably also nearshore / offshore civil engineering experience.

Responsibilities include :

  • Managing and where appropriate designing / undertaking desktop investigations for the development of onshore civil engineering for wind, solar and energy storage projects, including : Conceptual civil infrastructure (tracks, roads, drainage, foundations, services, enabling works) / structural design from planning drawings to pre-FEED level;
  • Ground investigations Site surveys / walkovers Investigative root cause analysis Identify and manage critical risks, issues and impacts of projects;
  • specifically the application of and adherence to both statutory and corporate (DNV and customers) health, safety and environmental requirements.

  • Project management and interface with our customer’s contractors
  • Acting as a package manager within major projects including delivering (on behalf of a customer within an owner’s engineering package).
  • Typically this would include complete technical project management of a package including design, construction and installation of a package (i.

    e. WTG, foundations or onshore) as well as procurement and contracts; and supporting our customers with discussions and negotiations with contractors.

  • Giving technical input to projects in your area of knowledge / expertise
  • Producing high-quality bids
  • Manage and hold project budget delivery responsibility for multiple projects ensuring delivery is within budget.
  • This role will support the business by acting as a focal point for the Design Authority process to achieve appropriate standards, legislation and project objectives, whilst also ensuring value engineering and innovation are incorporated in the design of projects we support on behalf of our customers.
  • Consultancy :

  • Advise our clients in our projects about civil design and compliance with local regulations.
  • Take a role as project manager.
  • Undertake quantitative and qualitative analyses for the projects you are working on.
  • Train and coach junior consultants in these projects.
  • Develop new services based on our customer needs.
  • Write high-quality reports and presentations to a publishable standard for our customers.
  • Work together with colleagues and experts both within and outside our region.
  • Know relevant national legislation, regulations and industry guidelines.

  • Support the teams in selling new projects to grow our business.
  • Grow your network to connect with potential clients.
  • Build strong relationships with existing and new customers.
  • Prepare high-quality proposals addressing the needs of our customers.

  • Position Qualifications

    To qualify you must have :

  • Understand the interfaces and technical risk between the key design engineering disciplines and the impacts of decisions on land-take, planning and the environment.
  • Proven project management skills and be able to deliver scopes of work, including managing complex interfaces, whilst maintaining good relationships with clients and the supply chain.
  • Have a successful track record in the delivery of civil works for renewable projects
  • You will be degree qualified (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering.
  • You will hold Chartered status and will have recognised Project Management training or an equivalent proven project management track record.
  • CDM or PSDP awareness is also a requirement.

  • Proven experience in construction including managing 3rd party contractors for specific areas of design, construction and installation of renewable / multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Experience in the preparation of contract specifications and works information is essential.
  • You will also be able to review documents (reports, proposals, etc) to a high standard from a technical, commercial and quality point of view and feedback to authors to promote continuous improvement
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills in English. Other languages will be considered a plus.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft software platforms including Project
  • Experience in general civil infrastructure feasibility and concept level design
  • Experience in preparing site investigation specifications and management of subcontractors.

  • Strong consultancy skills, and ability to engage credibly with senior stakeholders with our customers and with contractors.
  • Ability to handle complex (technical) problems and be able to deal with multiple parties with conflicting interests.
  • A curious mindset and a can-do attitude, with a willingness to embrace uncertainty.
  • Ability to work individually as well as in a team.
  • Understanding of the technical consequences of a business decision as well as the business consequences of a technical decision.
  • Although this role is mostly office-based, you will be required to travel within the U.K. and Ireland as and when is required by the work being undertaken.
